Built between 1952 and 1958, the Henselmann buildings along Karl-Marx-Allee and Frankfurter Allee are among the most impressive listed buildings in Berlin. The spacious building complexes combine classicist architectural elements with the style of the 1950s in a monumental and unique way, shaping the image of East Berlin’s city center like hardly any other building. The spacious complexes are divided into several sub-communities and are all connected to the district heating system. Heating and hot water are therefore provided centrally. Between 2013 and 2016, extensive refurbishment measures were carried out on the communal property, taking into account the historical character of these listed buildings. For example, the windows were replaced with new insulating glass windows and the fresh water and sewage pipes were modernized. The façades and stairwells have been refurbished in line with their listed status. All staircases have an elevator.
The property is located between Frankfurter Tor and Samariterstraße in the heart of East Berlin’s city center, not far from the well-known Boxhagener Platz and the popular Volkspark Friedrichshain. The Friedrichshain district is known for its diverse nightlife and numerous restaurants. Frankfurter Allee divides the north and south districts and thus offers a central location in the vibrant center with perfect transport links in all directions.
